Chocolate Pecan Butterscotch Blondie

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cup whole-wheat pastry flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup toasted chopped pecans
1/2 cup butterscotch chips
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1. Preheat oven to 350F. In a medium sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat and stir in the brown sugar so that it's well mixed into a goopy syrup. Remove from heat.

2. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt together in a large bowl.

3. Once the butter/sugar mixture cools a bit, add in the eggs and vanilla and stir until combined. Pour mixture into the flour and stir until just mixed. Add in the pecans, butterscotch chips and chocolate chips, stirring well so that everything gets mixed together.

4. Pour the batter into a buttered 9x9 inch baking dish, smoothing out the top with a spatula. Bake for 35 minutes or so until the center comes out relatively clean, the top is golden and the sides start to pull away from the dish. Cool and cut into squares.

My Response to Rep. Fred Larson, WA about Passage of The Health Care Bill

Dear Sir,

MY response to the passing of the One Healthcare Bill for All  last night.

Due to the passage of this supposedly helpful bill, my daughter is likely to lose her 10 employee business which she is hanging on to by a thread now. She is a young, successful entrepreneur who has succeeded in maintaining her business through a rough recession and we are so proud of her accomplishment.  Her contracted people have insurance through their spouses and free market policies. When she is required by your bill to start paying the premiums for them or is penalized by $2,000 for each for not doing so, her American Dream will shatter and so will ours.  This will happen to many small businesses across this great Nation, whether you want to believe it or not. Is that an outcome you support? I suppose you will say that employees will have an opportunity to buy into cheap insurance through the government. Yes--but can they be cared for the way they were under a freely chosen policy? Can they even afford the $750 penalty if they can't find a job? What category do they fit into then---oh, I forgot--jail.

As retirees, we have worked over 50 years to get us to this place in our lives.  We worked hard to pay off a mortgage, make sure we had adequate income via investments, and nurtured wonderful family and friends. 

To see OUR America being taken down from within by our own leaders led by the President of all people! It is so devastating. My husband served in the Army to keep us free. My uncle died at Normandy to keep us free. My brother healed people in the front lines in VietNam to keep us free. For this?? A band of pirates taking over the ship salivating for the goods??

I get a sick feeling in my stomach as do so many--especially after the Stupak deal of airport $$ for his pro-life votes-- that we will never enjoy Freedom again as we know it. I cannot begin to tell you how disgusted and disallusioned I am by the current one-party system in Washington. Do not be surprised if there is rioting in your streets. I suppose you have an answer for that too. Civil Police.

I will be learning about new candidates, educating my friends and working to unseat anyone who does not live up to our American Ideals.
